The Little Italy neighborhood on Chicago’s Near West Side is densely populated but is home to several modest green spaces, including Arrigo Park at Loomis and Polk. With Our Lady of Pompeii church, the former Cabrini Hospital (now a re-habbed condo building), and a statue of Christopher Columbus marking Arrigo’s boundaries, the park’s Italian heritage is not in doubt. As I often do on my way to work, I walked through the park yesterday morning and took some photographs. This is a view looking north at Our Lady of Pompeii church with the east end of Arrigo Park in the foreground.
